Fiona has sound experience of Human Resource, Training and Development through senior roles in the private and public sector. Fiona spent the first 10 years of her career in the financial services industry in a range of senior operational management and HR roles, followed by 6 years as Board HR Director in a healthcare organisation. Fiona brings particular expertise in the challenges of working in the most remote and rural parts of Scotland and the need to design and deliver innovative and practical solutions for clients. Fiona has a BA (Hons) in Business Organisation, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, City and Guilds Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS which is equivalent to a Level 3 NVQ in Training and Development). She is formally trained in the Prince ll project management methodology and is in the final stages of completing her chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Fiona is an experienced business trainer and coach. Fiona is a Partner at Sorton Partners.
Ray is a very experienced, full time training and development professional with over sixteen years’ experience of helping people and businesses to achieve their potential. In addition to a strong track record in training, Ray is based in Orkney and works across the UK. Ray is a lead assessor and verifier for one of the UK’s largest and most well respected training awarding bodies (The Institute of Leadership and Management). This experience means that Ray brings significant strengths to the Sorton Partners team in the areas of developing, evaluating and quality assuring business training. Ray holds a Diploma in Personnel Management, Certificate in Personnel Practice and NVQ Training and Development Level 3. Ray is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and a member of the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning (ITOL). Ray is a sub-contractor to Sorton Partners.
With over 30 years of diverse business experience, Michael MacRae has worked with small, medium and large businesses in the UK and across the globe. He has previously held management positions in the Travel Industry, Financial Services and Banking, Cooperative and a Community Interest/Social Enterprise sectors. He received a UK Government Commendation for “Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development in Rural Scotland” for community/social development work undertaken. His business interests have included retail, tourism, construction, and agriculture. He is presently a self-employed small business adviser based in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and provides advisory services to individuals, start-up, small and established businesses. Having worked with in excess of 250 businesses through the Western Isles over the last eight years he has a significant understanding of the distinctive economic environment, and the unique issues faced by businesses from the Butt to Barra. Since 1992 has also run an import export agency and consultancy, offering support and guidance on all elements of export and international trade. Michael is an Associate of the Institute of Business Consulting, Member of the International Association of Book Keepers and Associate of the International Association of Accounting Professionals. He holds a Diploma in Small Business Financial Management and has also attained a Diploma in International Trade.
Sara has 25 years’ business experience in roles within and out with Orkney. She was co-founder of an innovative and successful jewellery manufacture and retail business. This gave Sara excellent insight and experience in planning, establishing and growing businesses. During her 12 years with the company she devised and led a successful sales and marketing campaign which saw the company move from a single Orkney based outlet to a national presence of 4 stores and a wholesale business supplying another 50+ independent retail outlets with the jewellery collections throughout the UK. Most recently Sara has been helping clients from a wide range of business sectors to develop their business growth potential through practical marketing and sales interventions. This is making a valuable contribution to the start-up and growth of small to medium sized enterprises including third sector and social enterprises. She has developed written and implemented marketing strategies that have included web site design integrated with social media and consumer campaigns for several Orkney businesses. Sara has in depth expertise in all aspects of marketing, web upgrade and web site advice with search engine optimisation (SEO) and Social Media. Sara hold a SHND in Business Studies with French and Italian and a Post Graduate Diploma in Catering and Accommodation Management. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Sara has been providing advice and training services through the Business Gateway for more than 4 years. Sara is a Partner at Sorton Partners.
Over a twenty year career, Euan has developed a depth of experience in strategy, planning and business analysis. Euan spent 15 years in senior operational and project management roles in the oil and gas, jewellery and food and drinks industries. He is trained as a Six Sigma process improvement Black Belt and has undertaken significant development and project management assignments throughout the world. Euan established Kierfiold Business Advice in 2004 and later Sorton Partners in 2008 to help and support clients with business start-up, funding, strategy, planning and analysis. During this time he has worked closely with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Business Gateway to help establish and grow more than 400 small to medium sized enterprises including third sector and social enterprises. Euan holds a BSc in Physics and Computing and is a member of the Institute of Business Consulting. He is a member of the Management Council for Orkney College (part of the University of the Highlands and Islands) and has a strong interest in the role of education in the development of sustainable economies. Euan has been providing advice and training services through Business Gateway since 2008 and prior to this provided similar services through Highlands and Islands Enterprise since 2004.
